Web Development ArticlesFreeware PHP and HTML Editor for Mac OS X
Published: 27th Mar 2006
Using an Apple Mac has many advantages over using Windows machines: ease of use, appealing aesthetics, and general brilliance to name a few.
Finding the right software for your Mac can sometimes be a challenge. You may find the perfect free application you need only to find it's for the Windows platform only. With this in mind, a small amount of searching and research on the world wide web led to the discovery of Taco HTML Edit. Taco HTML Edit is a full featured HTML and PHP development environment distributed as freeware. It is designed exclusively for Mac OS X. Thank you Raj Doshi! Some handy features include full HTML and PHP syntax highlighting / colour coding, a live preview pane where you can see the effects of changes in your code instantly, and a Quick Insert dropdown enabling you to insert the HTML code equivalents of mathematical and foreign language characters. I would fully recommend it for anyone with experience in hand coding. A very useful tool indeed! Incidentally, when it comes to PHP and HTML editing on a Windows machine, I would recommend PHP Designer. It boasts a wealth of functionality needed to edit PHP scripts and HTML code. Designed to help accelerating and enhance the process of edit, debug, analyze and publish PHP scripts all wrapped into a sophisticated streamlined interface! Of course, there's the small problem of it not running on Macs but, to be honest, this doesn't take anything away from its usefulness as an HTML and PHP editor in general.
