Code Editors (Syntax Highlighting) - Aptana, Crimson Editor, PHP Designer

Below I've provided a brief overview of three brilliant code editors useful for all round editing of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and more. Even though it is a worthwhile skill to be able to code in Notepad, these tools make the life of a programmer / web developer just that little bit easier!

Aptana IDE

Aptana is a robust, JavaScript-focused IDE for building dynamic web applications. Some features are outlined below:
  • Code Assist on JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, including your own JavaScript functions
  • Outliner that gives a snapshot view of your JavaScript, HTML, and CSS code structure
  • Support for Aptana UI customization and extensions
  • Error and warning notification for your code
Aptana is available for Windows, Macinstosh and Linux.

Crimson Editor

Crimson Editor is a professional Windows based source code editor. This program is quick to load and small in size. A brilliant replacement for Notepad, offering many powerful features for programming languages such as HTML, C/C++, Perl and Java.

PHP Designer

PHP Designer boasts a wealth of functionality needed to edit PHP scripts along with HTML and CSS code. The current version is 2006 beta. A little bit of information from the site itself goes as follows:
